PETALING JAYA: News about the impending visa waiver for travel between Malaysia and China has been greeted with much enthusiasm.

In an immediate reaction, Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said this is a great piece of news for travellers from Malaysia after the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia announced that those with Malaysian passports could enjoy a maximum of 15-day visa-free stay in China from Dec 1.

"This is a wonderful gift in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia and China bilateral relations.

This decision, which would be effective until Nov 30, 2024, would benefit many Malaysians who plan to visit China for holidays, visitation, business and investment purposes," said Dr Wee, who added that in a reciprocal move, Chinese tourists would enjoy a 30-day visa-free stay when they visit Malaysia.

"When tabling Budget 2024 last month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the Malaysia Visa Liberalisation Plan, which I also supported during my debate as it will be beneficial to both our countries.

"I believe Malaysia and China will continue to build on our strong bilateral ties in the years to come," added Dr Wee.
