Selangor govt seeking ‘white knight’ to revive project in Morib

Borhan says the contractor has twice proposed for an amendment in the house price.

Selangor government is looking for ways to revive a housing project for former estate workers of Ladang Dusun Durian in Morib.

The project has been abandoned since 2006, leaving some 109 former estate workers in the lurch.

Selangor housing and culture committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah said the contractor had twice proposed to Selangor Housing and Property Board for an amendment in the house price.

It was reported earlier that the housebuyers only agreed to a maximum increase of 15% of the original price and had rejected the maximum increase of 300% of the original price put forward by the developer.

The state had no objection to the proposal, Borhan said, provided that the new price was approved by all 109 former estate workers.

“The parties could not come to an agreement or settlement.

“So the state suggested that the contractor take the legal route as both parties were also tied to the clauses stated in the power of attorney (PA) letter, and the sale and purchase agreement.

“Only 30% of buyers agreed verbally,” he said during the state assembly in response to Roznizan Ahmad’s (PN-Morib)question on the project’s status.

Borhan said the state was also looking at alternative ways to complete the project.

“We are looking at the possibility of cancelling the PA to expedite the revival, and work with an interested and capable ‘white knight’ developer to complete the project.

“If the two steps are completed, the project can take off.

“The developer will then be given the condition to give priority to the original buyers to purchase a unit or offer a refund on the amount that has been paid.”
