MELAKA: With the state set to usher in Visit Melaka Year 2024 soon, Alor Gajah will see the opening of a high-end resort, adding a buzz to the quaint little town.

State youth, sports and non-governmental organisations committee chairman VP Shanmugam said the Parkroyal A’Famosa would contribute to the growth of the tourism sector for rural Melaka by attracting quality tourists and creating employment opportunities for the local community.

“The hotel will bring about a multiplier effect to the economy and strengthen the tourism industry of Alor Gajah, which is currently perceived as a ‘sleepy hollow’,” he said yesterday.

Shanmugam, who is also the Gadek assemblyman, said the new landmark in his constituency would also have a positive impact on local enterprises and the surrounding tourist destinations such as the Gadek Wellness and Spa Resort, which will start operations early next year.

“The resort is expected to woo tourists, especially those from Europe and Taiwan,” he said, adding that the new facility boasts 20 rooms and eight chalets complete with hot spring pools.

According to Shanmugam, the 4ha project was approved under the 11th Malaysia Plan and built at a cost of RM17.9mil.

Meanwhile, Parkroyal A’Famosa Melaka general manager Anthony Paul Quin said the resort, which features 213 rooms and suites, is designed with a touch of local inspiration and would start with trial stays from next month.

“The resort is slated to be fully operational by the first quarter of next year,” he said, adding that the price range of its hotel rooms would be reasonable.

Quin said his management team would also work closely with tourism stakeholders in the state to support Visit Melaka Year 2024 by organising various activities and participating in local and international trade shows.

“We have an exclusive ballroom and various attractions at our hotels to complement tourist arrivals to Alor Gajah and the state as a whole,” he added.
