Amanah hopes Anwar sticks to promise of four-quota ministerial positions

JOHOR BARU: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is hoping that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will stick to the four-quota position given to the party, says Pulai MP Suhaizan Kayat.

The Johor Amanah vice-chairman said that this is what was allocated to the party when the unity government was formed back in November last year.

He said this when asked to comment whether the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living minister position should be given to Amanah.

“It is not my place to suggest anything to the Prime Minister, but I do hope that he (Anwar) will stick to the previous given quota of two ministers and two deputy ministers (from Amanah).

“Whether or not the minister position will be given to Amanah, that is up to the Prime Minister to decide, but we do hope to retain the given quota regardless of what ministry is given,” he said.

He said this when met after the National Population and Family Development Board Johor Family Carnival 2023 at PPR Melana Indah 2, here, on Saturday (Nov 25).

Suhaizan added that the minister’s position is a very important position that must be filled immediately to address the high cost of living.

“This is the issue that must be dealt with immediately by the ministry as it involves the livelihood of the people,” he added.

Earlier, Sinar Harian reported Anwar as saying that the candidate for the minister role had been identified.

The portfolio is currently being overseen by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak, and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Salahuddin died on July 23 after undergoing surgery for brain haemorrhage.
