Zion Cathedral Congregation will be celebrating its centenary anniversary in 2024.

For beginners, on this centennial journey, an event will be held tomorrow to pay respects to the nation and Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malaysia (ELCM) by raising flags, singing the national anthem and launching the centenary logo.

This will be followed by honouring of elder church members and distribution of centenary thanksgiving offertory box.

The Zion Cathedral Congregation was opened on Nov 30, 1924 by several church believers and forefathers.

A total of 60 Lutherans came from India to lead the building project, and they raised funds by collecting donations and one month’s salary from each person. The total cost was RM20,000.

As of now, 23 pastors have served in Zion Cathedral Congregation, including current pastor in charge Rev David Devapirian.

Now, there are more than 200 people attending Sunday Tamil services.

The event tomorrow will begin at 10.30am at Zion Cathedral Congregation, led by Bishop Steven Lawrence and followed by Rev Devapirian and other VIPs in the presence of the church members.

In conjunction with this centennial celebration, an executive committee was formed with other sub-committees to ensure the success of the event.

The executive committee for the 100-year anniversary celebration includes Bishop Lawrence as patron, Diocesan Council as advisory and Rev Devapirian as committee chairman.
