NEW Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) president Nazli Md Taib plans to focus on driving Kajang towards earning its city status during his term.

Nazli, 50, who previously served as Health Ministry Development Division deputy secretary, said the local council, however, still had various aspects to improve on.

He was promoted to council president after receiving his letter of appointment on Nov 14 and sworn in on Nov 16, following the departure of Najmuddin Jemain who stepped down on Oct 19.

“I wish to see several aspects improved to turn Kajang into a city, such as cleanliness, infrastructure and economy.

“I will be looking at this plan as a whole to familiarise myself with it in the coming months.

“We will review the results of what we have done and what we need to achieve next year,” he said, adding that he had met with councillors for their feedback.

Nazli said the councillors suggested having a total solution for waste management in Kajang.

“I will raise this with KDEB Waste Management and other concerned agencies to resolve this,” he said after chairing his first MPKj full board meeting.

On illegal dumping, Nazli said the local council would step up enforcement and study movements of offenders at identified hotspots.

“This will be part of the total solution for waste management in Kajang that will involve other agencies.”

On the council’s Parking Fine Reduction Campaign that offered a flat rate of RM10, Nazli urged those with outstanding parking compounds to take advantage of the extension until Dec 31, or face legal action.

“MPKj is extending the campaign after receiving good response.

“I urge the public to take advantage of this and settle their overdue parking compounds.

“At the end of the offer period, MPKj’s Legal Department will take action.

“Repeat offenders will be at the top of the list,” added Nazli, who is also a former Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) director.
