IPOH: An ardent Bruce Lee fan, Hew Kuan Yau, popularly known as “Superman Hew” organised a two-day exhibition on the legendary martial arts actor here.

Themed “Bruce Lee Infinity 50 in Silver State”, the exhibition was held at the Silver Star Cinema hall at Kg Simee here.

The 53-year-old Hew said he was eight years old when his father took him to watch Bruce Lee movie “The Big Boss” at a cinema in Teluk Intan.

“I was immediately mesmerised by Bruce Lee’s acting and martial arts moves.

“After that, I started participating in various martial arts clubs in school.

“Fast forward, I became a committee member of the Bruce Lee Fan Club based in Hong Kong, and started picking up my collectables,” he said during the exhibition on Saturday (Nov 25).

The exhibition is on until Sunday (Nov 26).

From old black and white photographs of Bruce Lee to posters and figurines, all were on display at the hall.

The exhibition was held in memory of Lee who passed away in 1973 at the age of 32.

Hew, a former DAP member, said several activities are being organised worldwide to commemorate Bruce Lee.

“I have over 2,000 collectables of Bruce Lee since I became the club’s committee member in 2002.

“During my school days, I collected T-shirts and posters, but when I went to Hong Kong to study, I seriously started collecting more items,” he said.

Among those who visited the exhibition was self-employed Bruce Bok Yin.

Bok, 55, from Langkap near Teluk Intan said he used to watch Bruce Lee movies in the cinemas with his father.

“I took the name Bruce when I started working.

“So when I heard about this exhibition, I drove all the way from Langkap,” he said, adding that he has a few collections of Bruce Lee figurines.
